Audience figures and what films are popular

The films below are the films that are similar to our one as they are share the same genre which is comedy. We believe that if we look at the different films in the same genre as us it could potentially help to improve out film and see if we can take any notes on the parts we think we could potentially fit into our film. We believe the following films are popular in out genre and therefore decided to research how successful they were and the amount they made.

21 Jump Street

Storyline - “In high school, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) was a dork and Jenko (Channing Tatum) was the popular jock. After graduation, both of them joined the police force and ended up as partners riding bicycles in the city park. Since they are young and look like high school students, they are assigned to an undercover unit to infiltrate a drug ring that is supplying high school student’s synthetic drugs. 21 jump street was released in 3148 theatres worldwide therefore it was always going to be a successful film. It also managed to make £201m in the opening weekend and was very successful globally and has very good reviews.

Shaun of the Dead

Storyline – “Shaun doesn't have a very good day, so he decides to turn his life around by getting his ex to take him back, but he times it for right in the middle of what may be a zombie apocalypse... But for him, it's an opportunity to show everyone he knows how useful he is by saving them all. All he has to do is survive... And get his ex-back.”

Shaun of the dead was released in only 607 theatres so compared to 21 jump street it is significantly less. Shaun of the dead managed to turn over £30m worldwide which is good considering the lack of theatres they released it in. compared to 21 jump street they made considerably less however Shaun of the dead is a smaller film.

 

40 Year Old Virgin

Storyline – “Andy at the age of 40 still hasn't had sex. He lets his secret slip at a poker game with his buds from work. After the revealing all his friends are on a mission to help get him laid. Along the way Andy meets a nice mom: Trish who fall head over heels for each other. Written by Kris Hopson”

40 year old virgin was released 2845 theatres worldwide which is in between 21 Jump Street and Shaun of the dead. It also managed to turn over £177m worldwide which is a lot and is very similar to the amount 21 jump street made.
